The arrests come barely 48 hours after top Maoist leader Prasadji, who carried a reward of Rs 20 lakhs, was held in the state.

West Singhbhum superintendent of police NK Singh told reporters that the arrests were carried out by a special team of officers who also recovered a cache of arms, communication equipment and cash from the rebels.

"Maoist platoon commander Tipa Das alias Umresh alias Sanjay alias Roshan, section commander Vikram Turi alias Anil alias Chandan and section commander of Sundargarh Ramveer Patro alias Somrai were arrested from Lupung village under Gua police station," Singh told a press conference in Chaibasa, around 170 km from Ranchi.

The remaining arrested Maoists were identified as Veer Singh Kerai, Jagdish Kumar Das and Narayan Patro.

Singh said Tipa was a close aide of top Maoist leaders Prasadji and Sandeepji.

"He was involved in all anti-national activities in Jharkhand and Odisha carried out by Prasadji or Sandeepji's troop," he said, adding that Vikram Turli was appointed a section commander by Bihar-Jharkhand Regional Committee leader Chiragji at the age of 16.

"He was posted in Saranda by Chiragji in 2009," said Singh.
