Three arrested terrorists, one of whom is suspected to have links with Lashkar-e-Taiba, have revealed plans of carrying out a series of bomb attacks in the state.
The three terrorists were arrested in separate incidents from Kolkata, Jamshedpur and Varanasi last week. The Orissa officials have gone to these cities to interrogate them, a senior intelligence department official said.
According to the police, they arrested Tariq Akhtar from Kolkata on Tuesday. He has admitted to being an active member of the Lashkar-e-Taiba, said an official.
The two others, Noor Mohammed and Abdullah, were arrested from Jamshedpur and Varanasi respectively on Wednesday.
The terrorists reportedly told the police that they were planning to carry out a series of explosions either in Kolkata or Bhubaneswar. Noor Mohammed had reportedly revealed that he had also planned to kill a leading Orissa politician.
"We have deputed officials to interrogate the arrested terrorists to find out their operation in the state and their links with crime," state police chief Suchit Das said. "There were suspicions about terrorist activities in Orissa, but they were not confirmed."
"We are hopeful that things would be clear in next two-three days," he added.
