Just three days into his job as a domestic help, Sanjay Das went on a stabbing spree, killing his employer's four-year-old son and seriously injuring his two daughters after midnight on Wednesday. He fled the city immediately, but was arrested in Rishikesh on Thursday evening.

Police said Das crept into the children's bedroom and tried to sexually assault the elder daughter. When the 16-year-old resisted, he stabbed her 17 times in the back and hands with a kitchen knife.

With the noise and commotion, the two other children also woke up. Das stabbed them both, slitting the boy's neck. While the boy died on way to the hospital, the other two children were said to be out of danger.

P.R. Meena, joint commissioner of police, northern range, said, "Das came to Delhi from Panipat, where he was staying with his brother-in-law, only last week. His wife and children live with his parents in Madhubani in Bihar."

The family employing him, residents of Roop Nagar in north Delhi, had not got Das’s antecedents verified from police. Police said Das had been recommended for the job by a relative's driver.
