“We got to know from neighbours that Deepak and Suchitra are from West Bengal, but we don’t know the town or village they come from. They were living nearby, but have disappeared with their belongings,” a top police officer, who didn’t wish to be named, said.

The couple is emerging as the prime suspect in the triple murder case as they left their hut after locking up Prof Sachdev’s house.

Rajesh Diwan, a friend of the professor, had visited Sachdev’s residence on Monday and had found it locked. When no one answered the door or returned phone calls, Diwan went to the RT Nagar police station. The family was found murdered when the door was broke open.

Besides, friends of Anurag, alias Happy, Prof Sachdev’s adopted son, confirmed his statement that they spent the weekend together at a place a few kms from his home. “He has been cooperating and has answered all our questions,” the police officer said.
