The militants ambushed a security force convoy in Miranshah, the headquarters of the North Waziristan tribal region, triggering a gunbattle, which left seven ultras dead, they said.

Two security personnel were also killed in the attack.

In a separate incident, suspected militants shot dead two security men on night duty at Miranshah. Tension gripped the area after the incident.

The latest incident comes after a ceasefire announced by the militants earlier this month expired on May 12.

The militants had announced a ceasefire with the army due to a religious congregation in Miranshah.

In another incident, an employee of the Water and Power Development Authority was shot dead when he was going with two other colleagues to restore electricity in a remote village near the South Waziristan tribal region.

Unidentified gunmen attacked vehicle of the authority in Amma Khel area near Waziristan.
