Shehnai to be part of MGKV curriculum
THE MAHATMA GANDHI Kashi Vidyapeeth (MGKV) is in the process of introducing shehnai as a subject in its curriculum. The university has also decided to set up a chair in the name of Shehnai maestro and Bharat Ratna late Ustad Bismillah Khan in its varsity.

A separate course on shehnai will also be introduced in the performing Arts Department of the MGKV and a proposal in this connection has been approved in a meeting of the varsity’s academic council on Monday. Vice-Chancellor of MGKV Prof SS Kushvaha chaired the meeting.
It was also decided in the meeting that the Visual and Performing Arts department would get an independent status of faculty. Padma Vibhushan awardee and noted tabla maestro Pandit Kishan Maharaj will be conferred with D. Lit as a Honorary Causa in the proposed convocation of varsity.
In the meeting, the Academic Council members also decided to send a proposal regarding the name of some prominent personalities to Governor TV Rajeswar for conferring Honorous Causa degrees in the proposed convocation.
The names, which are included in the list, are Daisako Suga (President of Sukomakai International Japan), Prof CNR Rao (Scientific Advisor to Prime Minister), Noriaki Suga of International Mahabodhi Society, Ghandhina Thinker, Narayan Bhai Desai and Nirmala Pandey.
A committee under the supervision of Prof Hare Ram Tripathi has been formed to prepare a proposal for the construction of Abhinav Gupta Academy.
The Academic Council members also apprised the Vice-Chancellor about the progress in the foundation of Lal Bahadur Shastri Technology Education Institute.
