Talking to newsmen, Yadav categorically stated that UDF and PDF would have no impact on the Samajwadi Party. “SP has worked for the welfare of masses irrespective of their cast, creed and religion. Therefore, Muslims will not desert SP,” asserted Yadav.

Commenting on Jan Morcha, Yadav said it was a party of incompetent people and would have no impact on Samajwadi Party’s vote bank. On the statements issued by the opposition parties on un-employment allowance, Yadav said, “It was on the election agenda of the SP and we have only fulfilled our promise.” “If we had not fulfilled our promises then also the Opposition parties would have issued adverse statements,” added Yadav.

Commenting on the increase in the prices of petrol and diesel, the minister stated that the Union government must reduce the tax on both petrol and diesel and only then the State government would follow suit.

He lambasted the Centre for exporting grain. “India is an agriculture based country and the export of grain exposed anti-farmer policies of the UPA government.” he added.

Respite from rostering

PRESENCE OF Power Minister Shiv Pal Singh Yadav in the city brought the much-needed respite for Kanpurites from rostering. The daily rostering schedule of 7am to 3pm was done away with by the UPPCL, courtesy power minister who was in the city to attend ‘chaleeswan’ of Samajwadi Party MLA Haji Mushtaq Solanki. On normal days power supply of the entire city is snapped at 7 am and is restored only after 3pm while some areas continue to reel under power crisis even after rostering hours are over at 3 pm.

Earlier, on several occasions it was the presence of Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav that brought relief to the masses from prolonged hours of power rostering. The curren crisis is being attributed to local faults, overloading and tripping in southern areas of the city.
