Eminent lawyer and former West Bengal chief minister Siddharth Shankar Ray will represent Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly in his appeal to the International Cricket Council (ICC) against his six-match ban for slow over rate.

"The ban is not legally maintainable. For unintentional slow over rate, no ban is sustainable in the ICC Code itself," said Ushanath Banerjee, counsel for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), who will assist Ray.
Ray had earlier successfully defended Ganguly, while appealing the case against match referee Clive Lloyd, who had suspended the skipper for two matches for slow over rate during an India-Pakistan match in November 2004.
Referring to Ganguly being allowed to play pending resolution of his appeal, BCCI joint secretary Gautam Dasgupta said, "Let us see what happens. It may also happen that Ganguly is recalled as captain."
Rahul Dravid has been appointed captain and Virender Sehwag as vice captain for the remaining two India-Pakistan one dayers after the ICC banned Ganguly for six matches.
