England pace bowler Simon Jones was ruled out of the Test series against India on Monday with a knee injury. The Glamorgan bowler was flown home from Nagpur last week after breaking down before the first Test, which ended in a draw on Sunday.

Jones had an arthroscopy on Friday to determine the extent of the injury to his left knee and is unlikely to return for the seven one-day internationals.

"He will begin his rehabilitation programme under the supervision of the England one-day international physiotherapist Dean Conway this week," the England and Wales Cricket Board said.

England have already lost captain Michael Vaughan for the series because of a persistent problem with his right knee. The team is being led by allrounder Andrew Flintoff.

The second Test is at Mohali from Thursday, and the third Test is at Mumbai from March 19.
