NEWLY ELECTED Mayor Kaushlendra Singh was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Varanasi divisional commissioner VV Singh Vishven here on Friday in the presence of senior BJP leaders and a large gathering including newly elected corporators.

Ninety newly elected corporators were also administered oath by the Mayor. They were administered the oath of office and secrecy in groups of five at a time. The process took almost two hours.

Since the Mayor belonged to BJP, a large number of party activists and senior leaders were present at the swearing-in ceremony.

Criminal and jailed mafia, Babu Yadav, who won the corporator election from Samajwadi Party ticket, was brought to the swearing-in ceremony amid tight security. He too was administered oath.

Meanwhile, officials of the Varanasi Nagar Nigam greeted the corporators before administering them oath.

Among those present on the occasion included former minister Harishchand Srivastava, MLA Ajai Rai, Shyamdev Rai Chaudhary besides the entire BJP cadre of Varanasi.

It may be mentioned that BJP won the mayoral election for the third consecutive term. The newly elected Mayor won against Samajwadi Party’s Kanyalal Gupta by a margin of about 29,000 votes.
