Six pilgrims were killed and two seriously injured when the van in which they were travelling collided with an iron-laden lorry on the Bangalore Road, 10 kms from Tirupati.

Police said that the pilgrims, from Kongurukala village of Ibrahimpatnam mandal in Nalgonda district in Andhra Pradesh, were on their way to the Venkateshwara temple at Tirupati after worhipping at Sabarimala when the mishap occured.
The condition of the injured, admitted to the Tirupati Government hospital, is stated to be serious.
