SOME MISCREANTS allegedly ransacked the room of a Sociology Department professor at Lucknow University (LU) on Monday. They beat up some electricians and took away books after breaking the glass of the bookshelves. Sources said the incident was the result of a dispute between two senior professors vying for the HoD?s post.

HoD Prof JMS Verma’s term ended on Monday and Prof VD Mishra was to be given charge. However, when Prof Mishra reached the Department, a decision on the issue was yet to be taken by the Arts Faculty Dean who was seeking legal opinion on Prof Verma’s memorandum for extension of tenure. Prof Mishra alleged the vandalism was to defame him.

Earlier, in the day, the outgoing HoD, Prof JMS Verma visited Pro V-C’s office to thank him for accepting his memorandum and seeking legal opinion. Soon, the news spread that some miscreants has ransacked the Department and damaged some property. Proctor AN Singh reached the spot and inspected all the rooms.

He got the room sealed before leaving the Department.

LUACTA not pleased: Lucknow University Associated College Teachers’ Association has alleged that the varsity administration has not paid some degree colleges for the expenses incurred in conducting the examinations. Citing an instance, LUACTA chief said during the 2005 examination, the varsity administration had promised to pay the bills for barricading but the payment had not been made.
