Somnath Chatterjee likely to be pro tem Speaker of 14th LS
The veteran CPI (M) leader is likely to be the Speaker of the first session of 14th LS when it meets to deliver oath of affirmation to the new MPs.
Veteran CPI (M) leader Somnath Chatterjee is likely to be the pro-tem Speaker of the first session of the 14th Lok Sabha, when it meets to deliver the oath of affirmation to the newly-elected members.
"Since he is the senior-most leader of the party and has held such a position previously, Chatterjee is most likely to be the pro tem speaker this time too," CPI (M) sources said.
The veteran Marxist Parliamentarian had been the pro tem speaker in the 13th Lok Sabha as he was the seniormost member of the House.
Chatterjee has been elected the tenth time to the Lower House. He was defeated the only time by Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee.
His name is also among the probables for the post of the Lok Sabha Speaker.
