Sony Entertainment launches new English movie channel

The new channel, PIX, was launched by Hollywood actor-singer Will Smith during his India tour.

Sony Entertainment Television launched its new English movie channel, PIX. The channel would be on air from April 1, 2006 .

"The launch of our new English movie channel, PIX, further strengths our already strong suite of SET India channels, which offer viewers the best in entertainment and movies," CEO, SET India, Kunal Dasgupta told reporters today.

PIX will draw on the Sony Pictures library that includes titles from Coliumbia and MGM and will definitely excite the Hollywood movie lover.

Grammy award winner and Hollywood actor, Will Smith launched the channel at a function here today.

"India is becoming a superpower on the world stage and i wanted to experience its entertainment industry firsthand. I am thrilled that SET invited me to make this visit and also launch their new English movie channel PIX," Will Smith said.

"I watched my first Bollywood movie recently, which was Sarkar of BIG B, and decided that henceforth I would call myself Big W", Smith added jokingly.

This channel would be a part of the network of channels distributed by The One Alliance - a joint venture between SET India and Discovery Communications India.
