The inaugural exhibition at the South Asian Gallery of Art (SAGA) displayed 32 works of South Asian masters Sadequain, Husain, Mansaram and Youngo, reports the South Asian Observer. Noted Pakistani music composer Sohail Rana inaugurated it.

Located at Oakville in the Greater Toronto Area, SAGA is the brainchild of the husband and wife duo Shehla and Ali Adil Khan, who have been active participants in the Toronto art scene.

Speaking of the gallery, Khan said: "We offer a platform for both emerging and established artists to exhibit their work. Fortunately, there's a growing number of admirers and collectors of fine arts."

Said Deepali Dewan, associate curator of South Asian Art at the Royal Ontario Museum: "The presence of South Asian arts in Toronto has been steadily growing. With the opening of SAGA, South Asians further solidify the presence of their arts."

A buoyant Khan has already engaged curators and artists for the next two exhibitions. "I will exhibit art that speaks for itself, one that is not necessarily produced for the living room."
