It may be mentioned that SP leaders had to bear the brunt of the anger of weavers on Saturday when the party activists reached the district magistrate’s office to stage a demonstration to corner the Congress-led UPA government on the Iran issue.

The weavers who were also demonstrating there, burnt the effigy of Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav in the presence of senior party leaders but the latter somehow restrained themselves.

City unit president of SP Zia-ul-Islam, senior party leader Dr Mohsin and Zafar Amin Dakku met bunker leaders and asked them to prepare a charter of their demands which would be placed before the Chief Minister and assured them that with proper persuasion, the CM would consider the genuine demands of the weavers.

The party has also decided to take out a cycle rally in which the problems faced by the weavers will be highlighted. The rally will pass through various routes on February 21 to expose the Congress-led Union Government on the Iran issue.
Earlier, the party had organised a demonstration at the Collectorate on this issue on Saturday.

Expressing his views on this occasion, State Minister for Agriculture Jaiprakash Yadav and district unit president of the party Chandrabali Yadav had blamed the UPA Government of having tarnished the image of the country by signing against the interest of traditional friend Iran.

They expressed apprehension that India was losing its allies, which would weaken the position of the country on the international front.

They recalled that Iran had always supported India at international fora but in its crucial hour, India ditched Iran, which was highly condemnable.
