SP, Congress gear up for rallies

SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav will be in the city on July 31 to distribute the cheques of unemployment allowance. Congress president Sonia Gandhi wqill be in the city on August 8 to launch the party’s election campaign for the forthcoming Vidhan Sabha elections.

National secretary of SP Mahila Sabha Kanak Mishra presided over a meeting of party workers to take stock of the preparations being made for the CM’s rally.

Party workers and ward presidents from all parts of the city took part in the meeting.

The SP women activists have installed ten life-sized hoardings of their leaders in the city. “The party activists can contact me anytime if they face any difficulty in executing the work assigned to them,” she said.

Meanwhile, launching a scathing attack on the SP, the District Congress Committee (Dehat) has organised a party workers’ meeting on July 31, when the CM will address the SP prooposed rally on Phoolbagh ground. State Congress president Salman Khurshid would preside over the meeting at Akbarpur in Kanpur Dehat.

“Salman Khurshid will be presiding over a meeting of party workers on July 31 at Akbarpur,” DCC president of Kanpur Dehat Dharamveer Singh said.


The people from eight adjoining districts of the city would take part in Sonia Gandhi’s rally on August 8, Singh said.

Besidees, Congress MLA from Govind Nagar Vidhan Sabha constituency Ajay Kapoor convened a party workers’ conference on July 30. Party’s national general secretary Ashok Ghelot, State Congress president Salman Khurshid, Pramod Tewari, Union Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal and RPN Singh would take part, Kapoor added.
