Abhishek Yadav, 24, and Anil Yadav, 20, members of the Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha, who jumped the barricade in Jhusi on Monday and ran towards Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi waving black flags, are veterans at breaching his security.
What’s more, the youth wing activists of the Samajwadi Party had also breached Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s security cover last year.
On January 10, the duo had jumped on to the bonnet of Rahul’s vehicle in Sulemsarai when he had come to attend a function at the Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology. However, no action was taken against them.
On November 25, 2010, the two had jumped on to the road in front of the motorcade of Sonia Gandhi when she was in the city to address a public rally at KP Inter College ground. They had released hundreds of black balloons, but the George Town police had looked the other way.
After Monday’s incident, Abhishek and Anil said they pulled off the reckless act to draw Rahul’s attention towards holding students’ union polls.
Abhishek is a first year law student of Allahabad University and Anil Yadav is a BA second year student of the university.
According to sources, the local intelligence unit had cautioned the trans-Ganga police about the possibility of a security breach. Congress leader Abhay Awasthi said the situation was such that the SPG could have even shot the intruders.
Some Congress leaders allegedly beat up the two after they were intercepted.
Top police officers of the district are still silent over the security breach at Jhusi.
