Addressing mediapersons here on Thursday, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyut Mazdoor Federation national secretary AP Shukla and UP Vidyut Mazdoor Union State president Ramapati Singh Yadav demanded the government to formulate an energy policy of public interests and withdraw the Electricity Bill-2003.

The duo alleged that the experiment of privatisation had failed in the State and the UP Power Corporation faced a loss of Rs 8,000 crore in the last six years.

They also criticised the stand of the State Government on the Anpara ‘C’ project. “Had the State Government started the Anpara ‘C’ project to generate 1000 MW of electricity, UP would not have been facing power crisis at present,” they said. They added that the one-sided action of the State Government to privatize the Anpara ‘C’ and other power projects were not in the interest of the public and the State.

They further said a two-day convention of UPVMU would be held at Karsewakpurm in Ayodhya from February 9 to chalk out a strategy for a state-wide protest against the government’s policy of privatisation of power projects.

The duo said ABVMF executive president KK Hardas would inaugurate the convention while UP Power Corporation director (Administration) Harishchandra Singh would be the chief guest.

They added that the general manager of Faizabad Power Corporation (Distribution) PN Singh, ABMV leader Keshav Lal Gupta, Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh president Sarwesh Chandra Dwivedi, Devnath Singh and MLC Lallu Singh would participate in the convention.

The duo also appreciated the decision of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for constituting the Sixth Pay Commission.
