SP MLA arrested in kidnapping case in UP

Samajwadi Party MLA Ashok Kumar Singh Chandel, named as party candidate from Hamirpur Lok Sabha seat, was arrested in connection with a two-year-old kidnapping case.

Samajwadi Party MLA Ashok Kumar Singh Chandel, named as party candidate from Hamirpur Lok Sabha seat, was on Monday arrested in connection with a two-year-old kidnapping case.

There are about 18 cases of murder and Gangsters Act pending against the MLA, police said.

Chandel was produced in the court of chief judicial magistrate and sent to jail in connection with the 2007 kidnapping case.

Another accused Lallu was also arrested along with Chandel, Additional Director General of Police, Law and Order, Brij Lal said in Lucknow.

A total of eight people were wanted in the case and chargesheet against them was also filed, the ADG said adding a hunt was on for remaining six.
