Jammu and Kashmir assembly speaker Mohmmad Akbar Lone today expunged the remarks of leader of opposition Mehbooba Mufti, who raised allegations of illegal appointments against a senior official.
As the PDP chief brought out some documents containing proof of the illegal appointments, Lone asked her whether she stood by her remarks against the official (director, information) for involvement in illegal appointments.
The speaker told her that the official has drawn his attention toward allegations levelled against him.
Mehbooba was repeatedly asked by the Speaker to produce a single order issued by the official, in support of her remark but she was unable to produce any such proof.
Noisy scenes were witnessed as MLAs Nasir Ahmed Gurezi, Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan, Javid Mustafa Mir, Rafi Mir and Choudhary Zulfkar Ali debated the matter in the House.
When Mehbooba clarified that she was targeting a single official as the illegal appointments were carried by the coalition government, the Speaker said that the image of the officer has to be respected.
"His (officer's) feelings have been hurt by such remarks and allegations made should have been supported by actual proof. Therefore, in absence of any such proof produced in the House in support of the claim against officer, the remark of Mehbooba Mufti against Director Information is expunged from the records of the House," the Speaker wrote in his order.
