Mafeli, a 24-year old physically challenged girl, has achieved the rare feat of finishing her novel in just 26 days.
Mafeli used a pen to hit the typewriter keys to write Confessions, a 202-page novel written in Mizo language. She has not been able to walk or hold a spoon properly since she was two years old.
Born into a poor family, Mafeli was afflicted by a bone-joint disorder after she fell from a chair on her second birthday. She suffered frequently from nose-bleeds and this ailment prevented her from studying beyond Class VII.
Talking about her novel, the young writer said it was based loosely on a true story. The protagonist is a girl born outside wedlock, who discovers her mother’s secret diary and finds out the identity of her biological father.
Asked how she was able to complete a 202-page novel in 26 days, Mafeli said she worked day and night to complete the story. The book was released in Aizwal at a small function.
