Two general bogies of the special train, carrying mostly 'kanwarias' (pilgrims of Lord Shiva's shrine), derailed near Laheriasari railway station on Darbanga-Samastipur section of East Central Railway, divisional commissioner manager Zafer Alam (Samastipur), said.

All the passengers were reported to be safe and a special relief train had reached the accident site, he said.

Engineers with two cranes were engaged to lift the bogies and repair the damaged railway tracks.

Rail traffic between Darbhanga and Samastipur stations was disrupted due to the accident, Alam added.
