Tripura is offering this experience at the Sipaheejala sanctuary which houses "bespectacled" monkey, a rare species, as part of promoting eco-tourism and attracting foreign tourists.

The monkeys are called "bespectacled" due to white round patches around their nostrils.

"We have built houses on the tree-top from where tourists can enjoy the serenity and beauty of the sanctuary and its animals," said Principal Chief Conservator of Forest Md Ayub Khan.

The houses are built using straw and bamboo and wooden planks without disturbing the environment, he said, adding all precautionary measures for protection of tourists from wild animals have also been taken.

Three most modern cottages of star category have also been built on bank of a lake just near the tree-top houses.

From outside, the cottages look like thatched houses but when you enter them you find all modern facilities, including air cooler and well-decorated bathrooms, Khan said.

Close to cottage stands a 70-feet tower from the top of which the entire 18.5 sqkm sanctuary and villages on its fringe can be seen and all these facilities would be opened to tourists by the first week of May this year, he said.
