With reference to Pulin B Nayak’s article Building blocks (May 31), let me point out that in 1973, Nobel laureate JR Hicks had diagnosed India’s economic ills in a larger sense as the problem of distribution. The people of Nandigram and Kalinganagar are reacting so violently because they are sceptical that they will benefit from the setting up of the Tata and Posco units. If farmers can’t trust their own Left Front government, one can imagine how deep the problem of distribution is.
