Delhi metro chief E. Sreedharan (78) was admitted to New Delhi's Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals on Wednesday morning after he suffered a massive heart attack at the Delhi Airport.

The managing director of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation was about to board a flight to Kolkata at 6.30 a.m. when he developed uneasiness in the chest.

He was immediately taken to the medical centre at the airport, where he was stabilised before being rushed to Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals on Mathura Road.

“He was immediately investigated and is currently being managed for his ailment in the Coronary Intensive Care. A multidisciplinary team of doctors is monitoring his progress,” said an Apollo spokesperson.

A temporary pacemaker was implanted today to stabilize his heart.
