A spokesman of Hurriyat stated that Geelani addressed a gathering by telephone in remembrance of Jamat-e-Islami Pakistan leader, late Qazi Hussain Ahmad.

He advised people of Pakistan to elect those honest people in forthcoming elections, not involved in corruption and those who are able to safeguard the "fundamental purpose of Pakistan".

Geelani, while criticising the role of ruling class of Pakistan, said: "They are not sincere and rather interested with party politics and their main aim was to strive only for power".

The veteran leader, known for his pro 'Islamic Pakistan' stance, accused the 'central government of creating a graveyard like silence with the dint of might and laying curbs over the political activities of pro-freedom politicians'.

"Pro-freedom people are not being permitted to interact with the people and authorities have unleashed arrest spree and detained hundreds and thousands of innocents," said Geelani . He said "We as a nation wish a prosperous Pakistan" and expressed deep concern over internal turmoil and turbulence in Pakistan.

The leader believed that some "sinister forces within Pakistan are providing assistance to those foreign forces who are hell-bent to see disintegration of Pakistan".
