This came to light recently when a corporator Kamlesh Singh raised the issue and sent a letter to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in this regard in August this year.
The PMO has asked the UP Government to explain the reasons for not implementing the scheme.
Following the explanation sought by the PMO, Sudhir Singh Chauhan of the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), Lucknow, had on November 9 demanded the details from the principal secretary, Urban Housing Development Ministry, about the progress of the scheme.
The State Government had issued an order on June 29, 2002, stating that around 1.25 lakh houses would be constructed for those who were living below the poverty line.
The Central Government had already sanctioned Rs 500 crore to implement the scheme.
The order said a committee, headed by district magistrate should be set up. The municipal commissioner, project director DUDA and PWD executive engineer would be the members of the committee that would monitor the progress of the scheme, the order said.
