Adnan Nayeem Asmi, a final year student of BA Programme, won the elections to become the president of the Students’ Union Society of St Stephen’s College.

Asmi defeated his sole competitor Maryam Fatima by a small margin of 122 votes.

The total number of valid votes cast was 786.

“I have been working hard from my first year in college. I even won the hardest working fresher award in first year,” said a smiling Adnan.

As promised in his manifesto, Adnan would like to make the union more democratic.

“It’s a little autocratic right now. Students elect the president and then he/she nominates the candidate. We are planning to take in members of the opposition in the cabinet,” Adnan said.
