HAS  GOVERNOR TV Rajeswar softened his stand  on the Samajwadi Party Government? Even if he hasn’t, he shares the government’s view that there is no need for a CBI probe into the Varanasi blasts case and says the STF is doing a satisfactory job.

Ironcially, he had been critical of the government on many issues in the past. But this time was different.

Despite the inordinate delay in solving the bomb blasts case, the Governor did not come down heavily on the government during his visit to Varanasi on Thursday.

“No comments on the prevailing law and order scenario in the State,” he said, when a specific question was directed at him about the situation in the State in wake of frequent attacks on innocent people, including the much publicised Mehar Bhargava murder case.

Though almost all political parties and common people favoured a CBI probe into many heinous crimes, including the twin blasts in Varanasi on March 7, Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav had rejected the demand. The Governor took the same stand. He said the STF investigating the bomb blasts case was doing a satisfactory job.

The fact, however, is that the STF and local police are groping in the dark, committing mistakes, making life hell for innocent people by releasing their pictures to the media.

“There is no soft corner, or hard corner for the State Government,” Rajeshwar said, replying to a question.

The Governor used to express his annoyance with the government in full public view earlier. During his last visit to Varanasi to attend the Mahatam Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth convocation, he underscored the need for focusing on English language. He had categorically stated that though that he was being criticised for this (in an obvious reference to the CM), he did not mind.

Similarly, he had said that dacoits and criminals got elected to the panchayats in UP.
