A call for shutdown by separatist outfits to protest publication of caricatures of Prophet Mohammad has paralysed life in the Kashmir valley.

Shops and businesses were shut, public transport was off the road and attendance in government offices was thin.
The Employees' Joint Committee and Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation also supported the strike.
Those who ventured out for going to their workplaces were stranded on roads as the public transport did not ply, official sources said.
The Kashmir Bar Association, while giving the strike call, said that European countries were hurting sentiments of Muslims by publishing caricatures of the Prophet.
