In a Press release, the AISA’s Allahabad University president Prem Shankar Singh said reduction in seats would hurt the feelings of the President who had recently suggested increase in the number of seats in universities so that more students in the country got an opportunity to pursue higher education.
AISA leaders demanded recruitment of teachers to fill vacancies in the varsity.
The leaders urged students to request newly appointed AU Chancellor Verghese Kurien to intervene and solve their problems.
Meanwhile, students gheraoed the university registrar in support of their demands on Wednesday.
Allahabad University Students’ Union vice-president Brijendra Mishra led the gherao and informed the registrar about students’ problems.
Mishra said students had to suffer a financial loss and stress due to the complicated procedure involved in issuing duplicate copy of marksheets.
Mishra said the registrar assured to solve the problem. Student leader Vijay Dwivedi demanded declaration of admission test dates and restoration of evening classes.
Those present on the occasion were Irshad Ullah, Pradeep Narayan Dwivedi, Devesh Singh and Dabbu Pasi among others.
The Arakshan Virodhi Chhatra Morcha (AVCM) conducted a meeting at the AU Students’ Union hall on Wednesday. AVCM president Abhishek Shukla presided over the meeting conducted by Vijay Dwivedi.
The activists demanded that the authorities not apply reservation in the varsity.
The AVCM leaders threatened to intensify their protest if their demands were not considered by the Central Government.
Those present on the occasion were Anand Singh, Sunil Dwivedi, Preeti Tripathi, Rajeev Singh, Irshad Ullah and Ashutosh Pandey among others.
