The hallmark of the conference remained the two plenary sessions: the Professor TRS Menon Memorial Lecture delivered by eminent educationist Prof MB Menon, who has been founder faculty member of IGNOU and chairperson of the National Institute of Open School, and the Prof SN Mukherjee Memorial Lecture by Prof DN Sansanwal.
In his talk, Prof Sansanwal said India’s destiny was shaped in classrooms and this depended on the quality of teachers.
“Unplanned expansion of teacher education is contributing to degradation of quality of teachers’ preparations. Innovations should be useful and economical in terms of time and money, ease to implement, availability of infrastructure and human resources, transferability of acquired skill, environment-friendly and should be able to break the monotony,” he said.
The professor has carried out experiments relating to computer-based diagnostic test on class VII students. Another contribution is in the field of digitilised instructional material, which can improve theoretical understanding of both teacher educators and trainees.
About 270 papers were presented during the conference.
The valedictory session began with a welcome address by Prof PK Sahoo. Speaking on the occasion, Prof PC Saxena, the guest of honour, said all forms of education lacked professionalism to some extent.
“Society has also compromised with this trend. We have to bring together good educators to bring about all-round improvement of students,” he stressed.
MNNIT director and the chief guest Prof AB Sammadar said it was the need of the hour to adopt professionalism devoid of commercialism.
Eminent teacher Prof T Pati spoke on the purpose of education and said professionalism should be accompanied with utility.
In his address, IATE president Prof R Ghanta expressed happiness over the success of the conference.
