WORK WAS affected in the District Court on Tuesday due to a strike called by Judicial Employees Union demanding that the number of holidays in the court be at par with the High Court.

Though senior judicial officials remained on work they had nothing much to do, as the files were not moving and the paperwork got affected due to the strike called by class III and IV employees.
Union district president Vijay Singh Kushwaha, patron Aniruddh Mukhia and vice-president Anis Qureshi led demonstrations during the strike. They said that the strike signified the employees going on mass leave in protest of reduction in holidays in comparison to that in the HC.
They said that earlier they used to get 25 holidays, which have been drastically reduced to just 12 and this discrimination showed the attitude of those sitting on higher positions, who do not consider lower court employees as humans.
State Bar Council also chipped in favour of the demands. Council vice-president Champalal Yadav dispatched a letter in this regard to the Chief Justice on Tuesday stating that while HC employees will be getting holidays on Holi, Mahavir Jayanti, Good Friday, Janmashtmi, Sarva Pitra Amavasya, Dussehra and Diwali those working in the lower courts have been denied the same.
Similarly, third Saturday holiday has also been abolished, which will increase work pressure and impede efficiency. Similar, discrepancy can be sighted in the summer and winter holidays observed in the HC and District Court.
Yadav clarified that cutting holidays in the name of expediting work said to remain pending due to advocates was wrong and not the answer to the problem. He urged the CJ to issue orders for bringing holidays on par in the courts.
