Stripe it hot this season
If you thought stripes were boring and reminded you of jailbirds then think again. Stripes are ruling street fashion like never before.
If you thought stripes were boring and reminded you of jailbirds then think again. Stripes are ruling street fashion like never before. They have become bolder and daring. Try out horizontal stripes, deconstructed ones or thick and thin stripes. Even coloured stripes somehow seem to be coherent when put on fabric. They are everywhere: On the cuffs, collars, the hemlines of your trousers and even that tote bag you sport.
Denim, the classic fabric, has taken stripes so seriously that low-waist pants – the ones you may have to shave your bikini lines for – have stripes all over them. “They are flying off the racks even before you have the time to display them,” says Dheeraj Narang of Incense who makes sure his striped denims are priced sensibly for the young college girls who love to visit his store in Sarojini Nagar. “But lycra and corduroy trousers with very thin striped cords with stretch blends suitable for their sizes are equally popular,” he adds. One of the hottest selling items at Incense is a striped trouser complimented by belts with huge funky buckles.
Fashion designer Mandira Wirk loves to wear stripes in denims and cottons as casuals. “Though they have been there for a year, they are very hot right now on the streets. Stripes give you a feeling of looking tall because of the vertical lines. In colourful hues, they are a pleasure to wear. A thick stripe makes a bold statement and if you team it with a striped tote bag, it makes a cool statement.”
Other stores selling striped denims include Metal in PVR Saket Complex, and numerous basement and market roadside shops at Greater Kailash Part One market.
