A STUDENT leader got upset over being asked to wait for his turn to meet the AU Controller of Exams Prof HS Upadhyaya due to an ongoing meeting and assaulted the armed guard posted there on Tuesday. Taking a strong cognizance of the students, the Exam Controller reported the matter to the AU proctor and also lodged a police complaint against the culprit.

Proctor, on his part, after holding a meeting with the Proctorial Board, suspended the student with immediate effect .

The incident took place at around 2.45 pm when Prof Upadhyaya was busy discussing some issues with his staff members. A student leader, Anand Shankar Singh, a student of final year MA (Philosophy) and an inmate of Holland hall hostel, reportedly arrived on the scene and tried to barge into his office.

On being stopped by the on-duty armed guard Surendra Kumar and asked to wait till Controller is free, the student leader lost his cool and following a brief altercation assaulted the guard. Surendra received injuries on his lips and inner cheeks in the incident.

Meanwhile, other staff members as well as security personnel immediately caught Anand Shankar Singh and detained him at the Exam Controller's office.

On being informed about the incident, the Proctor Prof Jata Shankar along with AU Security Officer Ajay Singh and other members of the Proctorial team reached the spot and handed over the culprit to the police.

"It is because of the magnanimity of the teachers who do not wish to spoil the careers of the students that trouble makers in the varsity are continuing with these kinds of incidents. I will be recommending to the proctor as well as the Vice-Chancellor to initiate strictest action against Anand Shankar Singh for his attacking an on-duty staff member who simply asked him to wait for his turn," Prof Upadhyaya said while confirming the incident.

Proctor Prof Jata Shankar said that he has received the complaint from the AU Exam Controller and a FIR will be lodged against the assailant at the Colenelganj police station by the varsity.
