Student leader?s hand in murder!

A student leader of Allahabad University Alok Patel is on the run. He is the prime accused in the alleged murder of an Air Force corporal Gajraj Singh with whose wife he was reportedly having an affair. Gajraj's wife Babita during interrogation accepted being close to Patel but denied any other relationship.

He is the prime accused in the alleged murder of an Air Force corporal Gajraj Singh with whose wife he was reportedly having an affair. Gajraj's wife Babita during interrogation accepted being close to Patel but denied any other relationship. She told police that she knew Alok because her maternal grandmother belonged to Ghatwa village in Karchana from where Alok came. However, police refused to accept Babita's version on the ground that she used to have lengthy conversations with him on his mobile phone. They reportedly have in their possession details of calls made by Babita to Alok Patel.

A resident of Lalit Nagar colony Gajraj was posted in Delhi. His wife Babita who comes from Meerapur in Tharwai had not moved to Delhi with her husband. She mostly used to stay at her parent's house and occasionally went to Gajraj's village home in Devapur under Tharwai police station.

Whenever Gajraj found time to come to the city Babita used to stay with him at their Lalit Nagar residence under Kotwali police station. Fourteen months ago on April 4, 2005 Gajraj who had come on a few days' leave suddenly vanished. A missing report was lodged by his family members at Kotwali. Later on suspicion of kidnapping for murder expressed by Gajraj's brother Brij Raj the police had lodged a case under section 364 IPC. A month after Gajraj's disappearance a body was found in Meja. It was identified as that of Gajraj by his family members.

After this Brij Raj reportedly gave in writing to the SSP that his brother had been murdered. He also accused Babita's hand in the murder. A police team under CO Rajesh Chaurasia had been probing this murder. Station officer Kydganj police station had been entrusted with the task to unravel this killing. On clues provided by Brij Raj police arrested one Ranjeet Singh, a resident of Meja, from George Town area. His interrogation spilled the beans.

According to him Alok Patel with four other persons came to his house about a year ago in the evening in a red colour car. They had brought a chicken which they cooked in Ranjeet's house. All of them had liquor. During conversation with them Ranjeet came to know about the presence of an unconscious person in the car whose hands and feet were tied. Around ten in the night Alok with his four associates and Ranjeet went to Paranipur in Meja. Ranjeet told police that Gajraj was brought down from the car and killed by Alok and his associates and the body was dumped in a well.

Meanwhile, Ranjeet was booked by the police today under various sections of the IPC while Babita's interrogation was still going on.
