The students reportedly verbally abused Tripathi and also pushed him around. They even allegedly slapped him when the deputy registrar refused to provide them the certificate without completing the due process. Later, registrar Sanjay Tiwari lodged a complaint with the Bag Sewania police naming one Sajjan Singh and four to six other unnamed accused in the case.

It was learnt that the incident occurred when a group of students reached the examination section of the university and approached Tripathi for a provisional certificate for one of the students.

The deputy registrar told the students that such a certificate could not be provided unless all records are verified and other processes completed.

The students then reportedly started arguing with Tripathi. Soon the situation turned nasty and the students, while verbally abusing him, pushed Tripathi around and even went to extent of slapping him.

Bag Sewania police said that on a complaint from the varsity, a case under Sections 147, 294 and 323 have been registered against Sajjan Singh and six others. Further investigations are going on. Meanwhile, the registrar has issued strict warning to such elements to keep away from the university campus. Security at the university is to be further strengthened after the incident.
