Allrounder Scott Styris is likely to miss New Zealand's first home cricket Test of the season against Sri Lanka from December 7 because of a back injury, team manager Lindsay Crocker said on Tuesday.

Crocker said Styris was still affected by the ruptured disc which limited his involvement in the recent Champions Trophy in India.
A final decision on Styris' fitness for the first Test had yet to be made but Crocker said New Zealand was mindful of the need to have him fit for next year's World Cup in the West Indies.
"We want to make sure that he gets into that competition but it's a bit early to say yet whether he would play in the first Test," Crocker said.
