THE SIXTH state convention of Syndicate Bank Employees Union (MP & CG) was held at Deendayal Parisar today. In his inaugural address, All India Bank Employees’ Association national joint secretary VK Sharma alleged that similar to the previous NDA government at the Centre, the present UPA-led Government too has been attacking trade unions and banking industry.

He said the Central Government has strategically been trying to encourage merger of banks and increasing FDI limit in private Indian banks.

Sharma said if the government does not revoke its decisions on banking sector, the unions would be compelled to resort to aggressive measures. He said the biggest challenge before banking sector is escalating non-performing assets (NPA) level, which currently stands at Rs 13,00,00 crore.

The general secretary, SBEU, Anil Shrivastava, alleged that the Central Government in the name of labour reforms has been extending support to capitalist. SBEU, president and chief guest JP Sharma also addressed pressing issues in the convention.
