According to contactmusic.com, Aguilera had appeared on the show Star Search when she was younger but says present shows like American Idol and The X Factor are more like trial-by-television.

She says: "It's great for the kids to show their talents - and if this is really what they want to do, that's a great way to start. I'm not sure I'd enter now if I was trying to make it, though. The judges are so critical - I would be too afraid to fail!"
