Tanushree Dutta abandons potatoes, malai and khayali pulao to get back to the multiplex matinees.. interviewed by Hiren Kotwani
You seem to have disappeared after the debacle of Raqeeb..
I'd like to be in the news only during my movie promotions or when I'm doing an event.
So, do you have enough to do in the four-hero movie Dhol?
I presume that Priyadarshan will present me very well, just like he's presented all the heroines before me. He's an intelligent director who has looked beyond my glamorous image.
But Priyadarshan's movies haven't really helped his heroines..
I beg to differ. Even an item number in Bhagham Bhag got me more attention than some of my other films.
Why did Raqeeb go so majorly wrong?
Bad publicity. The family audience was alienated because of the promos playing up the intimate scenes. Those who went were disappointed.. because there wasn't too much steam.
Oddly, your film Speed is going very slow in getting to the cinemas.
You're telling me. If it had released before Dhol, I would have gone to the temple and broken a nariyal. Now, I really don't know.. I'm only looking forward to Dhol.
<b1>Buzz is that you're Priyadarshan's new muse. So how come you aren't in Bhool Bhulaiyya?
I was never offered Bhool Bhulaiyya. If an actress and director work together in more than one film, all kinds of rumours are spread. I hope to work with him again.
You had a tough time with some of your producers and directors, from Vivek Agnihotri and Raj Kanwar to Pammi Baweja.
There were no issues with Aashiq Banaya Aapne. It's a small film but see its fate.. it made more money than expected. Then take Chocolate and Raqeeb.. good looking films which didn't land up anywhere.
You've got oodles of flak for putting on weight.
See, I had signed up quite a few films in the south. Also, I did stage shows. So, I was constantly travelling.. there was no time to workout. So, I put on weight.. which is encouraged down south.
I merely ended up with a little more (laughs). Although I'm doing a couple of more South Indian films, I'm being careful about my kilos.. no fatty foods for me.. (laughs) no khayali pulao either.
Talk is that you've shed kilos to do some stuntbaazi a la Lara Croft in a film being directed by Hadi Abrar.
Please, it has nothing to do with Lara Croft. It's a children's film. There will be some action but not an earth-shattering amount.
How is Aditya Datt?
He's fine, thank you.
After Aashiq Banaya Aapne, have you mutually decided not to work together?
We haven't discussed anything, we became friends and continue to be friends. Maybe we'll work together if something better than Aashiq Banaya Aapne comes along..
