In an FIR lodged three days ago in Purnia, 300 km from Patna, the teacher alleged that MLA Raj Kishore Kesri and his men raped her for a period spreading over three years.

Purnia DIG Amit Kumar said rape charges against Kesri were being investigated.

Kesri, however, rubbished the charges saying that they were part of a political conspiracy to malign his image before the assembly elections.

“The charges are completely fabricated and baseless, and the handiwork of my political opponents,” he said.

The state BJP leadership, including Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, has come out in support of Kesri. “Let the police probe the matter and the truth will come out,” Modi said. “The MLA had a clean image throughout his political career and it was not to the liking of some vested interests.”

Another woman had made similar charges against Kesri a couple of years ago, but the MLA was given a clean chit after an investigation.
