The school teachers across the state had gone on a token one-day strike demanding increase in salary on Thursday. The minister said one-day pay of the agitating teachers would be deducted from their salary.

"The teachers have got a special place in the society because of their devotion towards teaching. If they start asking price for it and applying the formula of giving it from one hand and taking it from other, then they will become a shopkeeper," Chitnis told reporters after a function.

She claimed that the policies of the state government are in favour of the teachers. Teachers have not set an example by resorting to agitation at the cost of their responsibility.
