Terror suspect held while trying to flee Bangalore

The Bangalore central crime branch police nabbed Mohammed Akram, 22, from a bus stand in the city. Akram's arrest takes the number of those held for the terror plot to 17.
According to the police, the suspects were planning to assassinate BJP politicians, leaders of Hindu organisations and journalists, and also target a defence establishment and nuclear installations.
Bangalore police commissioner BG Jyothiprakash Mirji said Akram was arrested when he was trying to flee the city.
"One foreign-made 7.65 mm pistol along with 16 cartridges and other incriminating articles were recovered from his possession," Mirji added.
Police have learnt during preliminary investigation that Akram is from Nanded district in Maharashtra. Incidentally, Maharashtra ATS has arrested four suspects linked to the terror plot from Nanded.
Mirji said Akram had been to Saudi Arabia for a year and returned to India.
"He was taking shelter in Bangalore for the last several days and hatching a conspiracy with the other (arrested) accused to execute target killings in Bangalore and elsewhere," he added.
