Thailand's defence minister said on Wednesday that martial law imposed after last month's coup should remain in place at least another month because of lingering political instability.

"I think the martial law is needed for at least another month and can be lifted after a one-month period," Defence Minister Bunrod Somtad said, adding that the "situation is still not stabilised."
His comment gave the latest indication that martial law imposed after the Sept. 19 coup would not be immediately lifted, as the international community has urged.
