People of Thiruvananthapuram will always remember Sunanda Pushkar for her feisty ways.
When husband Shashi Tharoor was accorded a grand reception at the Thiruvananthapuram international airport some time back, a young man in the crowd tried to misbehave with her.
She pulled the youth by his shirt, slapped him, but when there was some talk that he should be handed over to the police, she came to his defence saying he had learnt a lesson he would remember for the rest of his life.
Another time, during the Hay Literary Festival two years ago, when Pakistani author Mohammad Hanif criticised India’s role in Kashmir, she shot back, “Hanif you might have heard of a breed called Kashmiri Pandits. I am one of them. My husband can afford to smile, when you speak about the innocence of Pakistan, but not me, a wounded Pandit.”
