The National Book Fair- 06 got under way with 60 stalls set and the rest 54 getting out of the pile book by book even after the inauguration.
The lovers started trickling in hours before the inauguration and the Organisers were happy that they were under two huge fire-safe hangars. Experts from UP Fire Department inspected the venue and got back satisfied.
Noted poet and lyricist Gopal Das Neeraj inaugurated the book fair and while speaking at the inauguration said: “The nation is running after politicians and politics.
And society is going away from literature. Such a thing happening in a society indicates that things are not good with it.”
“Had I been a poet in some western country, of same stature I would have been having my private aircraft,” he commented upon the way society treats littérateurs.
There are over 25 Hindi publishers, 31 English publishers along with the National Council for Promotion of Urdu. There is something for every age. But, some stalls are exclusively devoted to children books.
The stocks and the range of books at the fair are mind-boggling. The fair offers a minimum of 10 per cent discount. While it is up to the individual stalls if it wants to offer more discount.
As far as the facilities this time is considered—the fair is better than all previous fair. There is no dust in the air as the venue covered with thick grass. Besides, there is carpeted flooring on the entire space under the hangars. There is proper water, food, refreshments and public conveniences this time. So one can spend hours and hours promenading through the stalls, sifting books, rummaging them, and buying them.
