Trevor Bayliss, Sri Lanka's coach, felt that there was a thin line separating failure and success, and that Sehwag's inning just highlighted this. When asked how he rated Sehwag's innings and his style of play Bayliss was somewhat understated in his praise. “It proves there is not a lot between success and failure for him. He tried to play the same way at the SSC,” he said. “Good players take don't make their luck they take advantage of it. You don't average 50 in Test cricket without being a good player.”

Bayliss also thought his team were a bit flat in the first session and was happy with the way they bounced back. “Before the break the intensity was not there as it was at the SSC. The pace bowling in the first session was not consistent. We bowled two or three good balls in an over and then conceded the loose ball. We had to bowl on one side of the wicket. The guys showed great character to bounce back after the interruption."
