Former prime ministers Chandra Shekhar and V.P. Singh believe that the elections would result into a hung Parliament but a "third front" government was unlikely to come about.

The two leaders gave the view after announcing the that a trust in Ayodhya had offered to build a mosque and a temple on its land that is 300 metres away from the disputed land.

They said those predicting 300 seats for the NDA were "day-dreaming". Chandra Shekhar said a realignment of forces in the post-poll scenario would gravitate towards the camp that would most likely be in a position to form the government.

Asked which way UP chief minister and Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav would go, he said, "As much as I know Mulayam, he will not support the NDA. He will do so only after leaving politics."

He said Mulayam and his party general secretary Amar Singh had time and again said they did not support the BJP and there was no reason to disbelieve them.

The former PMs said the Raj Rajeshwari Sita Ram Trust of Deara Raj, Sultanpur, which owns some land near the disputed area, had invited them to Ayodhya on May 2 for a ceremony to demarcate an area for a mosque, a temple and some social projects.

The ex-PMs welcomed the proposals and told the trust to take the state government into confidence.
